Black ornate heavy blind printed leather with gilt decoration extending onto inners and lettering and raised bands to spine. Marbled endpapers. Family register pages, entries for the family of John Robert Hull (1843-1871), date of first entries either on his wedding in 1866 or more probably between births of sons in 1868 and 1869. Last entry 1878. Very large heavy volume, approx 24cm by 32cm by 8cm. Very impressive full page and inset illustrations, (averaging more than one for every double page), decorated capitals to each chapter. Old Testament 1264pp, New Testament (and concordance) 424pp. Gilt page edging. A wonderful volume. Corners and edges worn through black leather surface, otherwise slight wear to covers, binding (covers and inner) very sound with strong hinges, although there is ome cracking on the inner surfaces. Endpapers and pages clean and bright. Gilt edging a little dimmed but still bright. One can see why the Victorians were tempted to spend hours looking at their bibles with editions like this. Scanned images can be provided.
